The goal of the Breadth section is to show off technical skill and use of a variety of mediums.
I gained a greater appreciation for detail and the incorporation of color in mediums such as colored pencil and acrylic paint. One thing I learned from this experience was to be unafraid of bold colors and the darkest darks; be unafraid to wear the bold "red lipstick". |
The concentration portion is made to show how well you can convey a certain theme across all 12 works.
My concentration theme is the image of the artist. Specifically, myself, as these are all self-portraits. I was always interested in the romanticized and cynical portrayal of 'artists', and I wanted to show the emotions and struggles of the art and the artist. For example, most of these are negative portrayals of an artist's emotions and how they may harm themselves in creating the work, whether mentally or physically. |

12 works. 24 weeks.
My second year of APSA was an exploratory process. 2D-Design is different from Drawing in that in addition to the mastery of mediums, you have to show a knowledge of the principles of design. |
12 works. 12 weeks. A reflection of my mental state.
The concentration portion is aimed towards showing how well an artist can convey a theme across 12 works. The central idea of my concentration is the depiction of angels in a relatively non-traditional light |
